Whitlam
Whitlam is a young and rapidly growing suburb situated in the Molonglo Valley district of Canberra, Australia. Named after former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, it adheres to a unique tradition – Canberra suburbs are typically named after past prime ministers, but only after a year has passed since their passing. This ensures a respectful timeframe.
Fresh Start, Sustainable Focus:
- Established in 2018, Whitlam is being developed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and creating a modern, eco-friendly community.
- Initiatives like installing solar panels in every home and utilizing recycled materials in construction demonstrate this commitment.
Designed for the Future:
- Whitlam’s design prioritizes walkability and easy access to green spaces. Wide streets, well-maintained parks, and a network of pathways encourage residents to embrace an active lifestyle and connect with nature.
- The suburb is strategically positioned for convenient access to other areas, with arterial roads leading to Canberra City center, Belconnen, and Canberra’s south side.
Current Stage of Development:
- As of March 2024, Whitlam is still under development. The Suburban Land Agency of the ACT government has plans for staged releases of residential dwelling lots.
- While the population is currently low, Whitlam is anticipated to become a thriving neighborhood in the coming years.
Looking Forward:
- Whitlam offers a glimpse into Canberra’s future urban development. Its focus on sustainability, well-designed infrastructure, and connection to nature makes it an attractive option for those seeking a modern and eco-conscious lifestyle.
- With its convenient location and ongoing development, Whitlam is poised to become a vibrant Canberra suburb.
