Individualised Living Options
What is Individualised Living Options (ILO)?
ILO serves as a valuable NDIS support system that enables individuals with disabilities to choose their preferred living arrangements with the necessary assistance. You have the freedom to decide how you want to live, where you want to live, and who you want to live with.
ILO does not provide the physical house or dwelling itself. Instead, it offers a flexible package of support services tailored to your specific needs, designed to enhance your living experience in the comfort of your own home.
What are the benefits of an ILO?
These supports can be incredibly helpful if you’re looking to move out of your family home or group residence. The package can be adjusted according to your changing needs and provides greater flexibility compared to Supported Independent Living (SIL), which is commonly used for shared housing. As a result, Individual Living Options (ILO) can cater to a wider range of individuals’ needs.
While ILO and SIL cannot be funded simultaneously, they both offer similar types of support, such as personal care and assistance in developing life skills.
According to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), ILO is designed for individuals with disabilities who are over 18 and require more than six hours of daily assistance at home, including help with problem-solving and decision-making. These individuals should be ready to explore their housing and living needs and be willing to dedicate time and effort to designing their future home.
The initial phase of ILO funding, aimed at exploring living support options, can also be utilized by individuals with disabilities who are 17 and wish to start planning their transition from home as part of their NDIS goals. One of the benefits of ILO is its consideration for involving family and friends in your support network and working collaboratively with funded services to ensure seamless coordination among different types of support.
ILO is also an excellent choice for individuals who prefer not to be limited to areas where group homes are typically located, as the package allows for living anywhere. The flexibility of funding makes ILO the ideal solution for meeting your needs, and the management of funding is equally flexible. You have the option to self-manage, seek assistance from a plan manager, or have it managed by a service provider.
